INSIDEOUTBACK designs have Aero as their middle name.
Aerodynamic drag is the biggest cause of high fuel use, and making slippery shapes is an equally high priority. Having an aerodynamically efficient base vehicle is a good start, but just adding square lumpy bits all over it is the wrong way to do it. This is why INSIDEOUTBACK vehicles look so different from the usual macho 4WDs.
All those dirt roads inevitably lead to a discussion of dust. It is insidious, and the tailgate of the base vehicle is probably not enough of a barrier, so we use aerodynamics to help keep it out. Eliminating openings, or ensuring some smooth airflow over the rear of the vehicle, eliminates or reduces the problem at source.
